Cabergoline is normally a pills which are used to treat a hormone imbalance condition in which there is a presence of the larger amount of prolactin in the blood (also called hyperprolactinemia).


The person should avoid or do not use cabergoline pills if they experience higher or have some uncontrolled high blood pressure or a heart valve disorder or a condition called fibrosis (which is the growth of excess tissue in or within the around internal organs). You may not use this cabergoline if you are allergic to any kind of ergot medicine.

Before taking this medicine

You should not use these pills of cabergoline if you are allergic to it, or if you have:

    • uncontrolled high blood pressure (hypertension).
    • a heart valve disorder.
    • a growth of excess tissue (fibrosis) in your lungs or around your heart or stomach.an allergy to any type of ergot medicine, such as dihydroergotamine, ergotamine, ergonovine, or methylergonovine.

    Tell your doctor if you have ever had:

    • Liver disease;
    • Heart problems; or
    • Hypertension caused by pregnancy, including eclampsia and preeclampsia;

How should I take cabergoline?

Your doctor will suggest or they perform some tests to predict or to make sure you do not have these conditions which would also easily helps to prevent you from safely using the cabergoline.

Follow all the directions as per the instruction on your prescription label and read all medication guides or instruction sheets to be followed as per the statement. Your doctor may occasionally change your limit of dose. Use the medicine exactly as per its directed.

The cabergoline is normally used twice a week for at least of minimum 6 months a time. Do not take this medicine every day unless your doctor tells you to. Your blood levels will need to be tested on a regular basis to measure your prolactin levels.

What should I avoid while taking cabergoline?

Avoid getting up too fast from a sitting or lying position as well, or you may feel dizzy kind of mood.

Cabergoline side effects

Get emergency in the way, while medical help if you have some signs of an allergic reaction hive; or maybe facing difficulties in breathing; or swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Call your doctor at once if you have:

  • Shortness of breath (even while lying down);
  • Chest pain, dry cough or hack;
  • A light-headed feeling, like you might pass out;
  • Pain in your side or lower back;
  • Little or no urination; or
  • Swelling in your ankles or feet.
