Edema is normally the condition of medical term for inflammation or swelling. The body parts usually swell in the area which is from the action of injury or inflammation in the parts. The condition can possibly affect all the small areas or it can affect the entire body as well. The state where which include infections, medications, pregnancy and several many other medical based problems can cause to have edema.

The condition of this edema normally happens when there is a leak of fluid in your small blood vessels into the presence of nearby tissues. The action or the case of extra fluid builds up, which the situation makes the tissue swell with the leaking fluid. Normally this can occur in almost any place in the body.

Types of Edema

Peripheral edema: This is the severe one that usually affects the ankles, legs, and feet but this can also occur in the arms at the major. While this may include as a symptom of the problems with your regular function of the circulatory system, lymph nodes, kidneys, and also other parts of the body in general.

Pedal edema: This condition normally causes when the action of leaking of fluid or gathering of fluid in your feet or in your lower legs. This condition is much common if you’re older by your age or pregnant.

Causes of Edema

This is much common while like a twisted ankle physically, a bee sting, or some kind of skin infection that will lead you to cause edema. However, in some cases infection is like this may be much supportive. More fluid from your blood vessels leads you to trouble like more infection-fighting white blood cells in the place of the affected or swollen area.

The cases of edema may result from:

  • Sitting or staying too long in one position
  • Adding too much salty food
  • Having premenstrual signs
  • If being pregnant

Symptoms and Signs of Edema

Signs of edema include:

  • Swelling of the tissue directly takes place under your skin, especially in your legs or arms
  • Stretched or shiny skin
  • Skin that retains a dimple, after being pressed for several seconds
  • Increased in the size of abdominal

Risk factors

The pregnant lady is affected then it’s much severe and the difficulties are a lot more to handle, your body retains more amount of sodium and water than it usually due to the which the fluid needed for the fetus and placenta. This can raise your risk of developing the symptoms of edema.

Your risk of edema may be high up if you have certain medications, including:

  • High blood pressure medications
  • Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
  • Steroid drugs
  • Certain diabetes medications called thiazolidinediones
