Gabapentin

Gabapentin is an effective supplement or drug especially used for antiepileptic medication. It major works to treat epilepsy, it is believed that the medications work by reducing the amount of other abnormal electrical activity in the brain and making the chemical at a balanced level in the brain, thus preventing seizures. The supplement is also used to treat severe nerve pain where it blocks or reduces the symptoms of the nerve pain by interfering with the signals of pain which travel through the damaged parts of nerves and make the brain function down.

How Should this medicine be used?

Gabapentin should be eaten orally as it comes in a capsule format, a tablet, and an oral solution (liquid) to take by mouth. Gabapentin capsules, tablets, and oral solution are usually taken with a glass of water or can be with or without food, three times a day must be taken.

These pills of medications should be followed as perfect and taken at an evenly spaced time between each one which is from throughout the day and night it must be taken 3 times a day. Follow all the set of instructions and the guide mentioned on the medicine label before taking it. The extended-release tablet (Horizant) must be taken along with food once daily at about 5 PM which is fixed. Take the right amount of gabapentin exactly as directed by your doctor. Do not add more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor can lead you to trouble. Swallow the entire extended-release tablets as a whole; do not try to cut, chew, or crush them.

Take the pills as your doctor tells you to take one-half of a regular tablet as part of your dose, carefully split the tablet along with the score mark. Use the other half-tablet as part of your next dose. Dispose of any other left half-tablets that you have not used within several days of breaking them.

Side effects of this medication cause?

Gabapentin may cause side effects. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:

  • drowsiness
  • tiredness or weakness
  • dizziness
  • headache
  • uncontrollable shaking of a part of your body
  • double or blurred vision
  • unsteadiness
  • anxiety
  • memory problems

Before taking this medicine

You should not use gabapentin if you are allergic to it.

To make sure gabapentin is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have ever had:

  • Breathing problems or lung disease, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  • Kidney disease
  • Diabetes
  • Depression, a mood disorder, and many other
  • A drug addiction
  • A seizure
